Neil Gaiman, American Gods. Not really classifiable, but interesting. I would previously have thought I knew a lot about gods, but there were all kinds of folks in there I didn't recognize. Though, of course, Mr. Wednesday would have lost his Easter bet had I been around. ;)

Kathy Reichs, Monday Mourning. Forensic anthropologist goodness! After Patricia Cornwell went all to hell, I've been looking for some good forensic science. This one's also supposed to be a TV show this fall--hope they don't screw it up.

Charlaine Harris, Living Dead in Dallas. I'm enjoying this series, especially after Anita Blake turned into death pr0n. This is starting out more realistic and I like the characters.

Some fluffy stuff while I write this grant proposal:
Rhys Bowen, Evans Above. Series has promise. I don't know much about Wales, where this is set, and the characters are interesting. I'll try another.

Carol Lea Benjamin, A Hell of a Dog. Murder at a dog training convention. Eh.

Marion Chesney, Hasty Death. "An Edwardian Murder Mystery." Wasn't horrible, but I've read better period mysteries. A tad formulaic.

Jennifer Weiner, Little Earthquakes. I continue to love Weiner's stuff, even if it's not a genre I usually read. She does a marvelous job of portraying real women's lives and issues. This one is about motherhood, so non-moms may find it less compelling.

I loved American Gods and another book in the same universe is coming out this fall. *gloat* I actually got to hear Gaiman read a couple of chapters of American Gods at a book signing. :)

I liked Little Earthquakes a lot, and found the characters compelling even though I'm not a mommy. Also, her blog (www.jenniferweiner.com) rocks on toast!
